31 Days of Holiday Self-Care, Day 13, Meet a Friend for Lunch

I actually got a jump of today’s self-care challenge yesterday when I met up with several friends from my office for a long lunch at an Indian buffet. Can you believe that even 15 minutes before I was debating whether to go? I was torn for the usual reason: I had a ton of work I needed to get done and I felt like I didn’t have the time to get away from the office.

I left for lunch vaguely stressed and grumpy and returned to the office filled with yummy food and nourished with good conversation seasoned with just the right amount of workplace bitching. There’s nothing like a timeout in the middle of the day for a good meal with good companions to fuel you up for the rest of the day. I worked through the afternoon without my normal slump at 3:00 p.m. and shockingly I’m still not as exhausted as I normally am at the end of the day.

So, today, I’d like to encourage you to reach out to the friend who makes you smile and nourishes your soul with wonderful stories and extravagant compliments. Call them up and insist that you meet for lunch. Suggest a place a little bit away from your normal route and linger over your meal. I bet your soul and your energy level will thank you.

    I love this series! Meeting friends for meals can do so much for your mood. In fact, I had breakfast with one friend and lunch with another yesterday – and then felt so guilty, I accomplished more the rest of the day than I had all week.

      That’s not quite what I meant by the challenge 🙂 You’re supposed to feel so renewed that you have extra energy, not guilt-ridden! But whatever works, right? I’m glad you had a good time. 🙂
