31 Days of Holiday Self-Care, Day 11, Buy Yourself a Present

You guys! Christmas is two weeks away. Have you finished buying all your presents?

Of course, you have. You guys are all strong, organized women who purchased thoughtful, personalized gifts for everyone on your list in August. Meanwhile, somehow I have managed this year to fall behind even my usual lax standards. I bought a flurry of gifts on Black Friday and then nothing after that. So, today it’s off to the mall for me! On December 11. Please pray for my soul!

But there’s something we can both do today, no matter where we are in the gift buying process. While you’re out and about today, why not buy yourself a little something that makes you smile? I’m not suggesting we all break our budgets and come home with that $1200 camera that we’ve always wanted. And I’m definitely not suggesting that we approach this with an attitude of “Nobody else is going to get me what I want so I’m just going to buy it for myself.” That seems bitter and counter-productive to spreading to love to those around us (which always includes ourselves).

But if today, if in the course of your travels, you should find yourself in a store with a candle selection, for example, why not wander over to it and pick out a beautifully scented candle? Or some lingerie that makes you feel special? Even a new lipstick – as long as it’s a bit of a splurge – can be a pick-me-up.

So, go ahead and get yourself a little something today. Because you’re special.

I love your picture for this post. The dog looks just like one of my dogs. A rat terrier. I love buying myself gifts. Hey, why not?

I picked it for his face because it seemed to be saying Why are you doing this to me? And so often that’s how we treat ourselves during the holidays. Get you and your dog something!

It’s important to remember to take care of one’s self especially during these busy holiday times. I just stopped saying yes to so many things to keep myself from getting overwhelmed.
