31 Days of Holiday Self-Care, Day 18, Spend Some Time in Nature

What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods? It’s fairly typical December weather here in Atlanta, a little brisk, but not too cold, and misty, but not really raining.

This is the perfect weather to sneak away for a quick walk through some neighborhood trails and pretend that I’m hiking through the Smoky Mountains. Humans were meant to be in nature and spending time outdoors or even viewing scenes of nature has been proven to boost happiness. People even heal faster when they have a view of trees from their hospital room.

So, if the weather is nice enough in your area, get out there and commune with nature. Try to find a place where you can at least keep the modern world out of sight, but even a walk through your neighborhood will do. Keep the headphones off and spend some time appreciating the beauty of the earth. If the weather is too awful or you just can’t get outside, then brew a cup of tea, pull a chair up to the window and enjoy the view of the outdoors.

No matter what you do, anytime you spend slowing down and really taking in the beauty of the outdoors will help refuel your tank for the week ahead. And most important, your soul will thank you.
