31 Days of Holiday Self-Care, Day 20, Give Yourself a Beauty Treatment

Are you familiar with Oleplex? It’s the conditioner that makes Kim Kardashian’s hair — and my own hair, I might add – amazing. My salon uses it whenever I get my hair highlighted and I even have a take home bottle, but I rarely use it because you have to sit around with it on your hair for thirty minutes before you rinse it out (ideally overnight) and ain’t nobody got time for that.

Well, today I took the time. I even added a refreshing face mask to the mix. I know it was a refreshing face mask because that was the literal name of the packet I bought at Target, but it really actually felt refreshing. And in true “put on your oxygen mask first” fashion, I actually did all this before writing the blog post telling you guys that you should do it.

I did the tip before I wrote about it because I have a tiny confession. I have a full-time job with a long commute that I bitch about constantly and a blog that I’ve been posting in for 20 straight days right now. And it’s the holidays! So, sometimes I don’t have time to do the thing I’m saying that you totally should be doing. For example, I can’t say in good conscience that I spent time yesterday doing the thing I love. I did get multiple presents wrapped, got my blog post up and had a spontaneous and lovely goodbye dinner with my sister before she leaves to go see her children, so I count the day as a good one. But I can’t count it as one where I followed my own advice.

But not today! Today I took time out for self-care first and I’ve got a picture to prove it!

HolidaySelf-CareChallenge-1

I took time for myself today and I obviously should have been cleaning my bathroom

I encourage you to do the same. Maybe you could do a refreshing face mask or a soothing foot rub. And, you know, I haven’t advised you to take a bath since December 8th. Perhaps it’s time for another? I’m thinking that I might even double-up on the self-care and use that Lush bath bomb I bought for myself last week when I was in the store getting presents for other people.

At least, you know you’re getting good self-care tips from someone who is (mostly) taking her own advice. And definitely keep checking in because I’m excited about the self-care challenges for the last 10 days of the year and I think you will be too. We’re going to all start 2017 refreshed and ready to go!

Katy, first I’m giving you a big round of applause for this challenge, I know it’s not easy to post something every single day. So can you hear the thunder of applause??? I do a lot of self care but I must admit that I have not taken time out to do a facial mask or hair mask, so I’m putting this on my list of to do for myself. Thank you love this.

Thanks so much for commenting! You’re absolutely right that it isn’t easy to post every day. And I certainly don’t think anyone is going to actually do everything every day! But it can be handy during this time of year to have a resource to dip into when you need some stress relief.
