31 Days of Holiday Self-Care, Day 31, Have a Quiet Toast to 2017

Welcome to the final day of 2016! And welcome also to the final day of the Midlife Rambler 31-Day Holiday Self-Care Challenge. I hope you’ve enjoyed this series and been able to try out at least a few of the tips so that your holiday season had a few moments of serenity in it.

What are your plans for this evening? Will you be heading out to a giant party, celebrating with friends, or are you like me and looking forward to a quiet evening with some great TV? (I’m thinking of binge-watching The Man in the High Castle and I’ll definitely pop into at least one episode of The Twilight Zone.

No matter what your evening plans are, why not take a few quiet moments and have a solo toast to the wondrous blank slate that is the New Year. When the clock hits midnight tonight, we’re given a fresh start; we’re given a New Year that we can shape to take any direction we choose. It’s true! Over the next few weeks, I’m going to be examining how to make 2017 our best year so far, but for tonight all we need to do is acknowledge the possibilities that a New Year holds.

So take some quiet time to think about what a gift a New Year can be and perhaps even allow yourself to wish out loud for whatever you want this New Year to hold. I’m a huge believer in the power of ritual so I love the idea of having a secret toast that’s just between you and the New Year to all the goodness you’ll be receiving in 2017. You don’t need to toast with champagne, of course. Sparkling water, a cup of tea, or just a silent nod will work just as well.
