If you’ve been following my Instagram stories, you know that I was offered a chance earlier this to participate in a 30 Day Traffic Secrets Challenge where I attempted to grow the traffic to Midlife Rambler by following the tips in the book, Traffic Secrets, The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers. I received a copy of the book and assignments to follow each day.
I’ll confess I was a bit skeptical about whether the Traffic Secrets book would be useful for Midlife Rambler. I had heard of Russell Brunson before. He is a Best-Selling Author & CEO of $100M software company ClickFunnels. He has built a following of over a million entrepreneurs, sold hundreds of thousands of copies of his books and popularized the concept of sales funnels. In 2014, Russell and partner Todd Dickerson launched ClickFunnels, which became the fastest-growing non-venture backed software company in the world. But I didn’t think his lessons would apply to me. Much of it seemed focused on businesses that have products to sell and I wasn’t sure how the teachings in the books could apply to my website which I picture as a friendly place where I simply share things I’ve learned.
To my amazement, many of the teachings have been spot on and will help me serve my Midlife Rambler readers even better.
It all boils down to this: Get really clear about your ideal audience. The Traffic Secrets books had several exercises to help me get clear about just what types of women Midlife Rambler is serving. Through these exercises, I learned the following:
- I created a Midlife Rambler avatar: a description of a typical reader and what she’s really like. What stage of life is she in? Is she married or single? Does she have children? What are their ages? What are her concerns and fears? Her likes and dislikes? I had already created something like this in the past, but this time I went even deeper.
- Then I did an even deeper dive into my audience: What other websites do they read? What magazines do they like? What social networks do they enjoy? What podcasts do they listen to?
- I particularly focused on social media and how I can leverage the social media my audience likes to visit to lead them back to Midlife Rambler.
- Finally, I used the information to create a content calendar full of content that I just know that you, my readers, will love.
If you’ve got any kind of business, particularly an online business of any kind, I encourage you to grab your own FREE copy of Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream, by Russell Brunson. The biggest problem that most entrepreneurs have isn’t creating an amazing product or service; it’s getting their future customers to discover that they even exist. Every year, tens of thousands of businesses start and fail because the entrepreneurs don’t understand this one essential skill: the art and science of getting consumers to find you. No matter what kind of business you have, I just know the insights in it will help you get to know your customers so much better and increase the traffic to your site. If you get a copy, let me know how it works for you!
