I’ve written before about how I was finally able to lose the weight I gained during menopause with Intermittent Fasting and cutting way down on refined sugar. I’m proud to say I was able to keep it off. Until, you know, I was stuck at home for weeks, worried sick and with nothing to do but bake.

Intermittent Fasting was the first to go. I needed something to look forward to in the mornings to motivate me to get up, y’all. And, obviously, you can’t bake things like Basque Cheesecake and Chocolate Meringue Pie without tons of refined sugar.

I actually haven’t put on that much weight; this morning when I weighed I was up six pounds. But I feel unhealthy and unenergetic and I swear every single one of those six pounds has landed in my belly. I really want to lose my extra weight and regain my energy.

So, you can see why I was so excited when I got a chance to receive an advance copy of Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion. I’ve read through the book and I’m really impressed by what I’ve read. This isn’t a fad diet. It combines Intermittent Fasting with nutrient-dense and filling foods and you can eat A LOT of food. I was reading through some of the suggested menus and I honestly don’t know if I can even finish some of these meals.

I like this plan because it’s always so hard to restart a diet when you’ve fallen off the wagon, as I have. Joel Marion’s Always Eat After 7PM program makes dieting easy and eliminates 90% of the reasons for resistance. As I read in the book:

“Late-night eating also curbs calorie intake the next day. In a four-week study, dieters added a snack to their daily regimen 90 minutes after dinner every night, and check this out: late-night eaters ate an average of 397 fewer calories per day.”

I’m going to be sharing my journey as I follow this plan over the next month. Basically, you start out with the 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and drop a few pounds quickly and then move into The Main Phase where you really learn exactly which foods to eat and when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals. Once you meet your goals, you move into The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good.

Here’s an interesting video with more of the science behind the plan.

The plan also recommends you start your day with a 3-Minute Fat-Burning Morning Ritual: a drink to help prime your metabolism for the  highest energy levels and fastest fat loss possible. I’d be skeptical about this if my own mother hadn’t started every day by drinking one of the recommended drinks – lemon water – every morning. She lived until 92 and never had a weight problem in her life so I’m willing to give it a try!
