Tips & Variations
Still vs Sparkling Moscato wine: Moscato is a sweet, fruity wine that pairs perfectly with the watermelon and other fruits in this sangria. It comes in both still (not bubbly) and sparkling (bubbly) varieties. For this recipe, I used a still wine and added a bit of club soda for carbonation. If you opt for sparkling, I suggest chilling for a shorter time as the wine will start to go flat if left to rest too long.
Choose a ripe watermelon: For the best flavor, use a very ripe watermelon. Choose one that feels heavy for its size and has a deep, uniform color. You can also use pre-cut watermelon to save time.
Add the club soda just before serving: Adding the club soda immediately before serving the sangria so it's nice and fizzy!
For a sweeter sangria: Add a touch of honey or agave nectar. If you like a drier sangria, you can reduce the amount of sweetener or omit it altogether.
Chill the sangria: I know you're going to want to drink this like immediately - but you should really let it chill for about an hour. Sangria tastes best nice and cold, and it also gives the flavors time to meld together.
