It's holiday shopping season, and that means it's time to talk stockings! I've always found stockings to be the single most fun part of Christmas morning, even as a kid. I still make stockings for everyone in the household, plus anyone visiting us for the holidays. Even the dog gets his own Christmas stocking!
Of course, filling all of those stockings takes a lot of little ideas. So I've put together my biggest list yet: more than 100 stocking stuffer ideas for him, for her, for the big kids, for the little kids and even for the pets. You'll find plenty of small, budget-friendly fillers, plus a few splurges for when you want one special surprise tucked into the toe.

How I Fill a Stocking
Over the years I've landed on a simple formula that keeps stockings fun without blowing the budget, whether I'm filling them for the kids or putting together stocking stuffers for adults. I try to include a little something from each of these four groups:
- Something to eat. Candy, chocolate, jerky or hot sauce. Add their own favorite candy too, since that's the thing they'll reach for first.
- Something useful. Lip balm, cozy socks, a charging cable or a new notebook. Little things they'll use all year.
- Something fun. A card game, a small toy, a joke book or a silly gag gift to get everyone laughing.
- Something special. One slightly nicer gift, wrapped in a small box and tucked into the toe of the stocking.
Each section below has a mix of price points. Most of the ideas for kids are under $20, with a couple of bigger-ticket ideas for when you want them.
Stocking Stuffers for Him
Men can be the hardest people to shop for, and stocking stuffers for men are no exception. The good news is that most guys love practical little things they would never buy for themselves: a tiny screwdriver for the junk drawer, grill gloves, a nice notebook or a fresh bottle of cologne. Snacks are always a win too, so I like to tuck in some mini hot sauces or a bag of beef jerky.
I've also added a few splurges for when you want one gift that really surprises him. And if he's been a little naughty this year, the lump of coal is a must. ;) Looking for something bigger? My gift ideas for men over 40 have plenty more.

Stocking Stuffer FAQ
How much should you spend on stocking stuffers?
There's no right answer. It really depends on your budget and how many stockings you're filling. A lot of families aim for somewhere around $25 to $50 per stocking, with several small items under $10 and maybe one bigger gift. Setting a number ahead of time keeps all those little things from adding up faster than you'd expect.
What are good stocking stuffers for adults?
Adults love treats and small luxuries: good chocolate, coffee, lip balm, hand cream, cozy socks and travel sizes of nicer beauty and grooming products. Practical gadgets like a book light, a portable charger or an AirTag are always big hits too.
What do you put in a stocking for a teenager?
Teens tend to love gift cards for their favorite games, trading cards, skincare and body spray, phone accessories, earbuds and candy. A card game or a joke book is a fun way to get them to join in on some family time.
When should you start shopping for stocking stuffers?
The earlier the better! Popular items like trading cards, small LEGO sets and trending toys can sell out in early December. Start picking things up in November and keep a bag in the closet to collect them as you go.
Should pets get Christmas stockings?
If your pets are part of the family, why not? A stocking with a favorite treat and a new toy is an easy way to include them, and it keeps them busy while everyone else opens presents. Just stick to treats and toys that are safe for your pet's size and breed.
