What are your plans for the holidays this year? Christmas is still up in the air for my family right now but I’m hopeful we’ll be able to manage at least a small and casual get together.
Nevertheless, I always enjoy celebrating the holidays with some special holiday outfits, so I’m already planning what I’m going to wear. I encourage you to join me in celebrating the season with something special.
It doesn’t have to be super fancy. In fact, these are mostly casual holiday outfits. But there’s nothing like slipping on your holiday clothes to get you in the Christmas spirit. I’m sure you’ll agree that we can all use any and everything that cheers us up this year.
Here are ten holiday outfits you can use for inspiration this year. Each outfit features something velvet because velvet is a classic holiday fabric and feels so good to wear. I’ve included five dressy options and five casual options so you can enjoy dressing for the holidays no matter what your plans are this year.

Holiday Outfit #1 – Dressed Up Velvet Leggings
I don’t know how Spanx leggings manage to be super comfortable and enhance my figure, but somehow they do it. This is the only brand of premium leggings I’m willing to pay a little bit more for.
Their velvet leggings are made of soft high-quality velvet material (no see through here!). Dress them up with a silk tunic, suede flats, and some statement jewelry.
Holiday Outfit #2 – Casual Velvet Leggings
Of course, these leggings also look great as a casual option with a warm over-sized sweater and my favorite comfortable booties.
Holiday Outfit #3 – Dressed Up Velvet Shirt

A long and loose-fitting velvet shirt has been my holiday outfit go-to for years. This shirt is similar and can be worn tucked in or with the shirttails out. For a more dressed-up look, tuck the shirt into snakeskin jeans and add a jeweled belt and velvet pumps. Add some shine with this Cubic Zirconia necklace and stud earrings set.
Holiday Outfit #4 – Casual Velvet Shirt
This velvet shirt really shines when worn with jeans and casual loafers. Wear it loose and untucked for casual elegance. Add some funky jewelry because it’s the holidays after all!
When else can you get away with wearing this much velvet at one time?
Holiday Outfit #5 – Dressed Up Velvet Jacket
I have a velvet jacket that I got from the Gap in 2000 that I pull out every holiday season. The classic cut means that it’s always in style and it’s a perfect topper for both dressed-up looks and casual outfits.
Now I also love this J. Crew velvet blazer, but I noticed it’s only available in black at the moment. If you want something more colorful, check out this option.
Pair it with this slinky halter-top and flowy pants. Add silver accents and some classic velvet slingbacks and you’re ready to hit the town.
Holiday Outfit #6 – Casual Velvet Jacket
This velvet jacket also works great with more casual outfits. This outfit would be perfect for a morning brunch with friends or a socially distant outdoor gathering.
You’ll stay warm with the jacket and the cozy cashmere sweater. Add leopard-print accessories, like these leopard print ballet flats, to tie the outfit together.
Holiday Outfit #7 – Dressed Up Velvet Skirt
This velvet skirt from Amazon is inexpensive and can be worn so many ways. I love the longer midi length and swingy pleats. They feel so elegant.
Keep the elegant feeling by adding a silk blouse, wide belt, pearl earrings and collar necklace, and velvet pumps with a nice heel.
Holiday Outfit #8 – Casual Velvet Skirt
This velvet skirt looks stunning when worn casually with a warm wool sweater and tall black boots. The chunky sweater and black boots really make the blue color of the skirt stand out.
Holiday Outfit #9 – Dressed Up Velvet Kimono
Indulge your inner Stevie Nicks with this silky kimono with burned velvet flower accents. Use it to add some spice to the classic velvet little black dress and round-toe pumps.
Shiny crystal earrings and necklace add to the dressed-up bohemian look. (Dressed-up bohemian is totally a thing, right?)
Holiday Outfit #10 – Casual Velvet Kimono
Throw the velvet kimono over this almost unbelievably comfy two-piece velour sweatsuit and you’ll be the star of your Zoom Christmas Breakfast. There’s no need to change out of your bedroom slippers when they’re these memory-foam slippers with old-time movie star glamour.
Which outfit is your favorite? Let me know in the comments.
