I’m so excited that I’m getting out and about so much more often than I have for the last two years. It feels like my husband and I are finally getting to experience Nashville after living here for almost two years.

Maybe that’s why I’ve been so excited to update my wardrobe this spring; I finally have some places to wear them!

I recently posted about my favorite spring fashion trends for Spring 2022 but I’ve also been checking out Instagram and all my favorite midlife style influencers. They’ve been showing some really fun trends for this season so I wanted to share them with you!

I originally published this post in 2017 but I found so many new trends that it’s all new for Spring 2022! Which outfit is your favorite?

15 Realistic Spring 2022 Trends for Women over 40

I’ve been doing a deep dive into the fashion trends I’ve been seeing for Spring 2022. And I don’t mean reading articles on runway trends for Spring 2022. I don’t…

I’ll be posting my spring outfits on Instagram too? Why not give me a follow at @midliferamblerblog and we can connect there too?

Flowing Floral Dress

I’ve already talked about how much I love floral dresses for this spring. How cute is this look from Tonya at therealchiclife? She has the most beautiful smile, doesn’t she?

For a look like this- check out this long floral dress or this midi length one.

And if it’s still chilly in your area, why not try using a spring dress like this one with your winter accessories? Pair it with a long sweater like this and a pair of comfy boots.

Floral Blouse

Another way to incorporate a feeling of spring into your wardrobe is with a floral pattern blouse. The ones I’m seeing are soft and flowy and paired with casual pieces, like the jeans and sneakers here on Brenda Kinsel.

Need a blouse like this in your life? I really love the fitted shape of this floral top and the bold pattern on this one.

Smocking

Fashion seems just a little bit more romantic this spring. I’ve been seeing tons of outfits with romantic details like this dress with puff sleeves and a smocked bodice worn by Jill of @hertimelessstyle. Her dress is perfect for a scenic garden walk.

I’m a fan of this smocked dress, which has a really similar style.

Pop of Color

Here’s another way to incorporate spring 2022 trends when the weather is still chilly. Add a pop of fresh spring color to your wardrobe.

Susan from Une Femme D’un Certain Age is showing how you can wear a cute sweater (in pink, one of this spring’s hottest colors) that you can wear now with warmer clothes and all through spring as the temperatures heat up.

Check out this cashmere blend sweater that comes in bright colors like pink, orange, and yellow.

Neutral Toned Outfits

Outfits in shades of white and beige were everywhere last spring and they’re still in style this year, too. Lucia of Lucia’s Personal Styling shows the neutral trend updated for 2022 with wide leg pants and cap-sleeve blouse.

Grab yourself a pair of linen pants like these and a simple fitted white top – and you’re on your way!

Ruffled Shirt Details

Cathy from The Middle Page Blog is showing off two hot spring 2022 trends: ruffle details and denim with denim. She’s also rocking the high-waisted Mom jeans – it’s time for women over 40 to embrace this trend.

These NYDJ (Not Your Daughter’s Jeans) are some of my favorite mom jeans. Check out more of my favorite wardrobe swaps to look younger here.

Here are some more ruffles details from Samantha at Fake Fabulous. This is a vintage shirt she got off E-Bay, which just proves that every fashion trend eventually becomes fresh again. I found this one on Amazon that has a similar look.

Puff Sleeves

Blouses with puff sleeves are everywhere this spring. I especially love this unique take on the trend shown by @instylebykaty.

If you want to tread lightly into this concept, check out these simple t-shirts with a slight puff sleeve.

Blazer/Denim Combo

Another way to wear the denim on denim trend is by styling your denim shirt and jeans combo with a classic blazer. This is a great way to take pieces you already own and turn them into an updated outfit, as Nikki from Midlife Chic does here.

This Cicy Bell blazer is my current favorite – it’s very classic but fitted enough to look modern.

Utility Jumpsuit

I’ve been seeing jumpsuits for a couple of years now (and I’ve even got an easy jumpsuit I love to wear), but it seems like jumpsuits are everywhere this spring. I’ve especially noticed several utility jumpsuits like this one modeled by the50plusgirl.

What do you think? Would you wear this trend? I think I might have to grab this solid black one.

Here’s another take on the jumpsuit from Michelle at maison_abbott. I love how the denim jumpsuit is paired with a classic breton tee.

Denim Shirtdress

Shirtdresses are another big trend this spring, especially in denim like we see here on Emma from The Style Splash. I love the detail on the pockets and the easy elastic waist. I found this one online that has a similar look.

Here’s an outfit formula from The Well Dressed Life showing two different ways to wear a denim shirtdress. I always love her outfit formulas.

For a similar look, check out these trouser style jeans from NYDJ.

Mom Jeans

I told you guys – it’s to embrace Mom Jeans! Look how cute these straight-legged jeans look on Dawn of Fashion Should be Fun.

Wide Leg Jeans

Jeans have a new look this season. The tried and true skinnies are still around, but we’re also branching out into other looks. These wide-leg jeans look cute and casual styled by Michelle of @fallen_into_fifty but they can also be dressed up with a blazer and heels.

Military Jacket

The military jacket has been around for a few seasons but I love how Caroline of fabfatand40plus has updated it with girlfriend jeans and patterned sneakers.

Here is an awesome military style jacket that comes in a whole variety of colors!

Oversized Blazer

Blazers are a classic topper for any outfit, but this season, I’m seeing more oversized blazers, especially when paired with a sleek silhouette, like this oversized blazer with leggings shown by Jess Soothill.

This casual blazer has a similar look!

Denim Jacket

Of course, the denim jacket is still a go-to piece for spring. I’m loving how Alison of aliash_style has paired her jacket with one of spring’s flowy dresses.

This dark wash denim jacket from Lee is a nice option – I think the darker wash looks a bit more modern.

The Shacket

The shacket – half shirt, half jacket – is still around for spring. This bright pink shacket modeled by Alice of alice_inthe_looking_glass would brighten any cool and cloudy spring day.

If you need to get your hands on a shacket – check out this one that comes in a bunch of fun colors.

Graphic Tee

Graphic Tees are still big this spring and I predict this shirt from Heather at Awesome over 50 is going to be in my closet very soon. Oh, and probably this matching tote bag too.

I love graphic tees paired with matching suits. It’s a great way to update an older suit that might otherwise seem a bit too prim.

It’s a Suit, but Make it Casual

It seems like everywhere I go, I’m seeing matching suits spiced up with unexpectedly casual accents, like this pastel suit with the racerback tee on Janet from The Grateful Gardenia.

Gingham Pants

Gingham is everywhere this spring. I especially love unexpected gingham pieces, like these gingham pants worn by the sisters at Not Your Moms 50.

White Pants

The rule about not wearing before Memorial Day is long over. Everyone I’m seeing has tons of cute outfits featuring white pants for spring. I absolutely adore this out from Marnie at @msgoldgirl. She’s also wearing the super-cute sandals that I’ve been seeing all over.

I’ve personally found these white straight cut jeans to be really comfy and flattering.

Oversized Shirt

Oversized shirts are another trend I’m seeing everywhere. Wear them like Suzanne from Crazy Blonde Life does here: partially tucked into sleek bottoms. Suzanne’s shirt incorporates two more spring trends: gingham and puff sleeves.

Classic Blazer, Tee & Pants Combo

I’m a sucker for the classic navy blazer, breton tee, and white pants outfit for spring and Alyson from That’s Not My Age models the look brilliantly here. This outfit always looks great on everyone.

See? This trend looks good on everyone. Look how cute Jutta from Fashion Style 50s looks in her trench, breton, and straight legged jeans with crisp white sneakers.

There’s a reason that the classic blazer and breton tee combo made it into my famous Amazon Capsule Wardrobe too!

Matching Sets

I’ve been seeing matching sets everywhere this spring. I really like how fresh this tank/long sweater matching set from Jacket Society looks.

Here’s my own take on the Matching Sets trend with this fun matching sweater set from the Draper James RSVP collection at Kohls.

Classic Trench

Everybody needs a classic trench to help them brave those spring showers. Dawn from Party Til Dawn is styling this perfectly with traditional pieces and those wonderful unexpected boots. I’m a fan of this trench coat from Cole Haan.

Preppy Vibe

There seems to be a preppy vibe to lots of the outfits I’m seeing this spring and I couldn’t love that more. This outfit on Bärbel of bar_beey is a great example. She could have worn this in the 80s – and probably did.

Wide Legged Pants

Check out this beautiful outfit styled by Nakia at Styles by Nak. The bold red wide legged pants are balanced by the cropped cardigan. I wanted to include this look because I love seeing women my age wearing looks I would never dream of trying myself.

Or maybe I should say that this is a look, I wouldn’t have dreamed of ever trying myself until I saw how great she looks. If you want to try it too – these red pants are a good pick!

Wear the Suit

One spring trend that I am absolutely in love with is the sudden appearance of really cute and flattering swimsuits for women of all ages and sizes. I feel like women have finally stood up and said, “I deserve to feel pretty in my swimsuit!” Just look at how good this suit looks on Ryanne of therecruitermom.

As a Floridian now, I wear a lot of swimsuits and I’ve found that Yonique has a great selection of swimwear for older women.

The Best Trend of Spring 2022: Wearing What Makes You Happy

I think the trend I saw most this spring on my Instagram feed was this one: women wearing whatever they liked and whatever made them happy. I’m thrilled to see that the days of strict “Never wear THIS after 40” are finally ending.

I think you’ll agree that Lynn of lynnlovesshopping looks amazing in this outfit. I’m glad to see it.
